IMMEDIATE ACTION ALERT:
SUPPORT THE
BIODIESEL TAX INCENTIVE!
BIODIESEL NEEDS YOUR HELP
Recently, the extension of the biodiesel tax credit was eliminated from
the Senate Jobs Bill that is making its way through congress. The tax credit has been a critical element in the growth of the
biodiesel industry, and is responsible for making the US more energy
independent and creating more tax revenue and jobs. For our children's health, the environment, energy independence, and to
stimulate our struggling economy, IT IS IMPERATIVE that the biodiesel
tax credit provision be reinstated as part of the current jobs bill.
Please help us save biodiesel by sending the letter below to your representative TODAY in support of this cause:

Dear [Congressman/Congresswoman] _____________,
I am writing you to urge you to support the biodiesel tax incentive. I am asking that the biodiesel tax credit be included as part of the current jobs bill making its way through congress. This bi-partisan bill is good for the environment and the economy, and will put 23,000 green collar workers back to work overnight.
The biodiesel tax credit pays for itself by creating more tax revenue than is spent. In 2009, the 450 million gallons of fuel produced by the US biodiesel industry supported 23,000 jobs in all sectors of the economy, added $4.1 billion to the US GDP, and generated $828 million in tax revenue for federal, state and local governments. That means the government spent $450 million on the credit and got back $828 million in revenue. Plus a lot of jobs. Compare that with the return from the roughly $3.5 billion/year subsidy for big oil.
The tax credit has been a critical element in the growth of the biodiesel industry. Since the credit was passed the industry has grown from 25 million gallons in 2004 to 700 million gallons in 2008, displacing millions of barrels of petroleum and helping to make the US more energy independent.
Just last week, the EPA reported that biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 57%, even when including the controversial 'indirect land use' calculations. This means that biodiesel is, by far, the most environmentally friendly fuel commercially available in the US. Additionally, biodiesel emissions have no sulfur and 50% less particulate matter, which means biodiesel exhaust is less harmful to human health than diesel exhaust.
With all these positives, you can see why it makes so much sense for the government to support this industry. For our children's health, the environment, energy independence and to stimulate our struggling economy, I respectfully request that your office take immediate action to reinstate the biodiesel tax credit provision. Thank you for your attention to this pressing matter.
Sincerely, [Your Name]
