JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER...
Many of my Cosmic Friends are sending emails to me, but sadly those emails are going straight into my spam bin. When sending me an email, please use the words ‘Cosmic A1’ in the subject line of your email, that way my email system can identify it from spam. I get a lot of emails, some I cannot give a reply to because there are not enough hours in the day, I apologise if this is the case, but I do try to read every email I get from you so long as you use the subject heading I suggest. So keep them coming and spread the love.

ARE YOU A POPPY OR A CRAB?

You know, something struck me during the last few months, and that is many people actually have a fear of success! This reminded me of something... (see next paragraph).
POPPY SYNDROME
Do you know what the poppy syndrome relates to? Have you heard of ‘tall poppy syndrome’? Well for those of you who do not know what that is all about let me explain. The poppy syndrome is a social tendency where high achievers are cut down to size by their peers.

Obviously such an outlook from your peers can make it tricky for you to achieve success and to grow. For many there is a stark and deep chasm whereby they to dare to put yourself out there in the world and try your best at what you’re passionate about is simply an impossible task. In reality it can be a pretty compelling motivator to stay diminutive – safe. There is no real impetus to stand aloft and make your voice heard.

In my years of helping others, one thing has stood out with regards why some had originally failed before seeking help and that was because of how they were resented, even attacked, cut down, or criticised because their often inflated talents or achievements lifted them above their peers! I myself have often come under attack simply because of my millionaire status! My peers felt they could attack me through put downs. This ‘invisible anger’ never slowed me down nor did it make me feel small, but sadly a lot of newbies and freshers to the business world do suffer as a direct consequence of this. Many fall by the wayside ... their dreams viciously ripped apart.
Incorrectly maligned or a real success?
(Publishing magnate Rupert Murdoch)
Tall Poppy Syndrome (TPS) is a derogatory term used to describe a levelling social attitude seen as green-eyed and malicious towards people of real endeavours. Someone is said to be suffering from tall poppy syndrome when his or her educational, creative, financial, logical, social, or opinionated prominence attracts dislike by those who lack such distinction, being supposed as big-headed, attention seeking, or without merit. Once-over, and still today, tall poppies could expect to be cut down.

Here is a story which really epitomises what the Tall Poppy Syndrome (TPS) is all about. A man sits in his room and complains to himself about his bad life. He picks up an old brass lamp and mockingly rubs it. Surprise, surprise, a genie appears and grants him one wish, but with a caveat! That caveat is that whatever he wishes for, his neighbour will get twice of it! Mhhhhhhhhhhhh! The man thinks about it and says to the genie: "So if I wish for a house, he'll get two? If I wish for a million dollars, he'll get two?" The genie affirms. Then the man states: "I wish to donate a kidney!”
Obviously this then makes the tall poppy syndrome sound a bit like fear of judgment or even maybe even fear of success. You see, our deepest fear is not that we are incompetent, it is in fact that we are prevailing further than any measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

This is when we start to question our brilliance. Our once immovable belief has been crushed! We ask, “Who am I to be brilliant?” Well you should be asking, “Who am I not to be brilliant?” Believe me, thinking small and playing small does not serve your aim to be successful. There is nothing free-thinking about flinching so that other people won’t feel self-doubting around you. We are all meant to be brilliant. We were born to manifest success. It is only due to others that we have shrunk away from it. And you know what? It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. We have to allow our brilliance to shine forth, in so doing we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

WHAT IS SO FRIGHTENING ABOUT SUCCESS?
If so, what is it, exactly, that you might fear if you stuck your head up above the ramparts? Did you know that we can actually draw strength from remaining unclear …. Getting clearer about what it is we fear can sometimes bring things into sharper focus. Anxiety over what might actually happen if you thrive or succeed or shine bright can hold you back. Forget about imagining who might be doing the cutting!
One fascinating thing I’ve learned again and again as an analyst is how often the stuff that’s feared from the outside can also be happening from within, too. It is the judgment of others that you fear, that is how harshly you may judge yourself.
It possible that the tall poppy syndrome has invaded your own internal field of dreams and obliterated your desire for success. You have to weed out this feeling, of course that can be difficult when you are in the poppy syndrome. However, I have something to help you! What I have created is something to help you practice forgetting about it and just let your qualities and skills and passions and poppies grow to whatever size they will. Now there is no need to let the tall poppy syndrome decide what the field of your life gets to look like.
For many talented entrepreneurs to step out bravely for the whole world to see, they’ll have to be assured that in stepping forward, working hard and achieving success they won’t be martyred by the very people around them.

HERE IN PART IS THE ANSWER
Be who you are.

THE CRAB MENTALITY
As much as the tall poppy syndrome prevails, a related concept is that of a crab mentality in which members of a underprivileged community are seen as destabilizing the success of commune members. The image is drawn from the examination that a crab clawing its way out of a bucket (or barrel in other versions) and is pulled back down by his fellows. This is also known as the ‘Hotel California Syndrome’ - you can check out any time you'd like, but you can never leave.

Crab mentality, sometimes referred to as crabs in the bucket, describes a way of thinking best described by the phrase ‘if I can't have it, neither can you’. Individually, the crabs could easily escape from the pot, but instead, they grab at each other in a useless ‘king of the hill’ rivalry which prevents any from escaping and ensures their collective demise. The analogy in human behaviour is that of a group that will attempt to pull down any member who achieves success beyond the others, out of jealousy, conspiracy or aggressive feelings.
Crab mentality is broadly related with short-sighted, non-constructive belief rather than an amalgamated, long-term, positive mentality. It is also often used colloquially in orientation to those or communities attempting to run away from a so-called disadvantaged life, but kept from doing so by others attempting to ride upon their coat-tails or those who just resent their success.
I know the question of “are you a crab or a poppy?” is somewhat convoluted, but in contrast to the poppy syndrome the crab mentality is often used to describe social situations where one person is trying to better themselves and others in the community attempt to pull them back down. The poppy syndrome, however, is much more malicious and covert! If you are a crab then certainly you will resent others going above their supposed station in life. If you are a poppy then you must watch out for the maliciousness of those with the poppy syndrome, they want to cut your head off!
CAN YOU SEE WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND YOU?
Are you able to read situations and notice when your peers start giving you the cold shoulder? Perhaps you were one of those just content to bitch about life and those above you. That was the time when you were ‘one of the guys’, but now you want to make your move. Be careful, there will be those around you with the poppy syndrome or the crab mentality. They will instill fear into you.
If you are brazen enough to strive for success or achieve it immediately then you may become a target for the crab bucket mentalities who, rather than strive for success themselves, derive enormous pleasure from attempting to cut the tall poppy back down.
WHAT IS THE ANSWER?
As a self help author / coach running a comprehensive development programme for many would be entrepreneurs, it is my job to produce future winners. Among other things, this involves demanding the maximum amount of effort and focus from everyone with whom I can help. If an entrepreneur is to become the best he / she can be, he / she must dedicate him / herself from a relatively early age to the single-minded pursuit of a successful career.

There will be an incredible amount of negative peer pressure that is brought to bear on anyone who attempts to scale life's peaks by those who have defaulted on the ascent.
And whether those peaks symbolize success on the sporting field, in the business world, in the academic arena, or in any other sphere of life, including life itself, there will always be those who give up on their mission to climb life's mountains, and instead choose to remain at the bottom of life's bucket — which would be fine, as long as they didn't then devote their destructive efforts, like the crabs, to pulling the climbers back down.
In a world where the predominant trend is toward anti-achievement and anti-success, motivational fuel is something that we all need from time to time to propel us toward our goals. Which is why I designed this audio CD (below). I am sure you will find this to be of immense help in your quest to drown out the negativity thrown at you on a daily basis.

Forgiveness and Love Conquers All: Healing the Emotional Self
SIGNED LIMITED EDITION
You can obtain your signed copy right now! This is a limited edition, which means once the allocated quata is sold then that is it ... finished.
Are you the first to give a friendly sign, to nod first, smile first, speak first and - if such a thing is necessary - forgive first? Can you put your hand on your heart and say “yes” to all of these things? Multi-million selling author Stephen Richards reveals and coaches you how to let go of the past, thereby ensuring you can move on to better things.
For most, forgiving is a rather difficult concept to grasp. The practice of forgiving is a chronological practice that begins with excusing someone. It may not exactly require for you to pardon something they have done against you but it will require that you start to distance yourself from feelings of seeing red or feeling extremely irate. These feelings of dislike and anger can have a very strong hold on a person; both inside and outside. In this book, Stephen Richards will show you how the most basic impediments to forgiveness, the repercussions of failing to forgive and the fruits of forgiveness can change your life.
Take a walk down memory lane, going as far back as your mind will let you; right from your infant years up to where you are right now. Take a walk through the garden of forgiveness and pick a flower of forgiveness for everything you have ever done. When you get to that time that is now, make a full and total forgiveness of your entire life and smile at the bouquet in your hands because it truly is beautiful. You are simply naturally inclined to make mistakes just as everyone else is, whether male or female, black or white, young or old. These mistakes are your school of learning therefore forgiveness is your greatest teacher in this school of learning.

PS
I no longer write true crime, but you may be surprised to find a new crime book by me that was published in June of this year. This is a title I have no control over it being published, as it is by a publisher I have contractual ties with from years ago. I no longer have an interest in such books nor do I support them.
