NJIO Open House Rehearsals
NJIO will hold open house rehearsals on Thursday, September 15 and September 22.
Bring your instrument and a music stand to the Judith Wharton Music Center, 60 Locust Avenue, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922. 

NJIO has three ensembles to accomodate different levels of playing ability. Below is the Open House schedule for each ensemble:
  • Prelude String Ensemble (designed for beginner string musicians who can read music); registration begins at 4:15, rehearsal time 4:30-5:30 PM;
  • Intermezzo String Ensemble (intermediate players); registration begins at 5:15 PM, rehearsal time 5:45-7:00 PM;
  • Symphony (intermediate through advanced); registration begins at 6:45 PM, rehearsal time 7:15-9:45 PM.
Auditions are not required except for the first violin section of Symphony. Non-string players should contact NJIO prior to the open house to check for available instrument openings.Fees are $250 per year, $150 senior citizen rate and $500 family rate (2 or more players). Players may wish to bring a battery-operated music stand light. Rehearsal schedule and registration forms are available on our website at www.njio.org
Meet the Maestro Wine and Cheese Party

Mr. Khudyev came to the United States in 2001 on a full scholarship from the Interlochen Arts AcademyHe received his Master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Yale School of Music where he studied with Shinik Hahm. He completed his Bachelor of Music degree on a full scholarship at the Oberlin Conservatory studying with Milan Vitek and Bridget Reischl. 
He currently serves as the Music Director of the New Haven Chamber Orchestra and the principal guest conductor of the National Orchestra of Ashgabat. He was the Music Director of the Saybrook College Orchestra at Yale University, the Assistant Conductor of the Yale Philharmonia and the New Music New Haven ensemble, the Assistant Conductor of the NOYO Orchestra as well as the Guest Conductor of the Yale Symphony Orchestra.
Proceeds from this event support NJIO programming.
2011 Concerto Competition Winners Announced

NJIO is pleased to announce the winners of the 2011 Young Artists Concerto Competition.
The first place winner, 13 year old Jessica Hong, cello, will join NJIO at its Winter Concert on February 12, 2012 and will play the "Concerto in C major, Hob. VII, n.1, 1st mov. Moderato" by Joseph Haydn. Second place winner, 15 year-old NaYoung Yang, violin, will be featured at NJIO's Family Concert on November 20, 2011 and will play "Concerto No. 5 in A Minor, Op. 37 Allegro non troppo" by Henri Vieuxtemps.
The first and second place winners will receive $200 and $100 respectively upon the conclusion of their performances with NJIO, as well as $200 and $100 gift certificates respectively to K & S Music in Berkeley Heights.
Honorable Mentions were also awarded to Soyeong Park, violin; Violetta Norrie, harp; Vikram Kalghatgi, violin; Johanna Nowik, viola; Emily Wang, violin; and Eric Jacobson, cello.
The 2012 Young Artists Concerto Competition will be held this spring. Information on auditions will be posted in upcoming editions of NJIO Notes.
