Hello and Happy New Year to Beeses’ favourite people

What weather...The river creeping up the garden path

And still we manage to successfully battle the elements.  For much of December and all of January so far, the main landing stage, the ferry landing stage and most of the steps on the Conham side of the river have been underwater.  Added to this frustration, our good old boat has been out of action and the part we needed took so long to show up we think it travelled via a slow boat from China.  However, looking on the bright side (even though the sun has been a bit of a stranger) the bar and tea rooms have remained dry and you can see how high the river has been!  Then of course we’ve all had the gale force winds to contend with, and this saw one of our trees snap in half and luckily miss Ma and Pa’s bedroom.  Hmmm!

Dates for your diary...

Next Sunday sees the return of Beeses’ Music Club and we’ve got a real treat.  Gypie, our resident muso, is bringing Pete Gage, who is also an ex-member of Dr Feelgood, so be ready to hear some traditional British rhythm and blues, the kind of stuff that gets your feet tapping.

Ma’s doing her next roasts on Sunday 11 February.  Numbers are limited so if you’re interested you need to reserve.  Ma has created a dining experience whereby you choose the roast you want (beef or lamb from the Bristol Farmers’ market), state how you want it cooked, and then it’s brought to your table for you to carve.  It’s served with roast potatoes, parsnips and three vegetables, and followed with a choice of two puddings plus cheese board – the price is £12.95 per head.

Gardening...

Work has started in the garden.  Trees have been cut back and bushes have been trimmed enabling a lovely view of the river from different parts of the garden.  Other work is due to start in February, which includes paving the area at the front of the bar and decking leading from the French doors.  Pa is to be the labourer on the job and he’s really looking forward to it!!  All of the works will be completed the week before Easter, or a few bodies will be found washed up at the Netham...

That's it until next time pop pickers.  With the rain looking likely to ease off over the next few weeks, pull on those walking boots and come down to see us.
