Hi all
Holy cow, we are only just recovering from last weekend's inundation
of hungry and thirsty revellers! We estimate that more than 1,000
people passed through Beeses over the course of the four days, and
although we were somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer numbers at times, we
were also gratified by the immense reserves of goodwill displayed by the
vast majority of you. Ma and Pa would like to thank you all for
your
support and patience while we fine tune our procedures, and we look
forward
to being able to serve each and every one of you in a timely and
efficient
manner.
We would also like to thank our staff, who coped brilliantly with the
workload, with special thanks going to a bunch of our friends who dropped
everything they had planned for a glorious Bank Holiday weekend to help
us
out. It fair brings a tear to Ma's eye...
The musos did a sterling job of keeping you all entertained, so thanks go
to Eddie Martin, Rattlesnake Shake, Gypie Mayo & Pete Gage,
and Andy Couzens.
No pictures...
Of course, we were so busy, we failed to take a single picture during the
entire weekend, so if any of you have pictures that you would be prepared
to share with us, we'd love to see them.
The French Connection
Amazingly, the experience didn't scare off our new French chef,
Jean-Pierre, who has returned to work every day with song in his heart, a
skip in his step, and a lump in his trousers (it's his mobile phone,
you filthy sods). Ma has difficulty remembering the names of her
family, let alone anyone else, so she has been ordered to call him
"Chef" or "JP", and punters are expected to observe
the same etiquette! Jean-Pierre has already created a special
Beeses
Burger that we hope to be offering soon, and you can expect more specials
to appear on the Beeses menu through the
course of the summer. Ma and Pa are very pleased to have JP as part
of the Beeses team.
Music News
Having successfully piloted the series of Beeses Music Club events
through
the winter months, we have decided to make these a weekly event, and move
them to Wednesday evenings. Starting next Wednesday (18 April), at
7:00 p.m. Gypie Mayo
and Chuck McQuillan will be reprising the sessions they entertained us
with during October and January, so if you fancy popping in after work
for
drink and bite to eat from the Beeses menu (as some of you are already
starting to do...), Gypie and Chuck will be aiding the digestive process
with a selection of blues, folk, country, jazz, and anything else that
takes their fancy.
This weekend
As announced in our last newsletter, this year is the 70th anniversary of
the launch of the River Princess, Messing About On The River's
flagship, and with her refurbishment completed, she will be visiting
Beeses this Saturday afternoon as part of the celebrations. TV,
radio and newspaper press are all expected to be in attendance, as well
as
the raggedy bunch that make up the Princess's retinue, so come down
in
time to welcome her into Beeses. We're told this should be 2:30
p.m., although with some guff being quoted about a lady reserving the
right to make her appearance in her own sweet time, we won't be
holding her to it.
And fine-ale-lly...
Thanks to the good folks at Bath Ales, Beeses can offer a real
ale at all times through the summer months. Bath Ales have
installed
a cooling system that enables us to serve ale from the casks on the
counter
at a consistently cool temperature. Last weekend we were serving Wickwar Brewing Company’s award-winning BOB
(Brand Oak Bitter) and Bath Ales' own excellent Gem, and at the time of writing we have
Butcombe Bitter on and ready to serve.
We intend to get other local and not-so-local beers in as well, so watch
this space.
Ma and Pa look forward to seeing you in what we are assured will be a
long
hot summer. Don't forget that we now open at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday
to Thursday, and 12:00 p.m. Friday to Sunday. On Mondays, Ma chills
out to Rocket From The Crypt bootlegs, so disturb her at your
peril.
Word.
