2012 Sacred Springs Powwow
Call for Volunteers

The 2012 Sacred Springs Powwow is set for October 6th and we're calling for volunteers to staff this incredible event.  Once again set along the beautiful shores of Spring Lake, the powwow will start at 10:00 AM with a blessing beside the waters, and will end at 6:00 PM.

There are a variety of jobs for volunteers including a new Admissions Tent, where the powwow will charge $2.00 per adult, with free admission for Elders, veterans, students and children.  This tent will need volunteers to collect admissions and issue event bracelets to people who enter the powwow grounds.

"The heart-and-soul of this event is our incredible volunteer corp," says Powwow Chairman Aaron Pyle (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma). "At the 2010 Sacred Springs Powwow, we had over 80 volunteers who supported this major celebration. It was very inspiring."  Ben Rocha will once again be heading up the volunteers.

Other volunteer opportunities include Vendor Guides and Arena Set-up during early morning; Information, Addmissions, and Volunteer tents staffing; Audience Surveyers; Demographers to count attendance; Dancers' Hospitality to provide water and food for the powwow drum and dancers; Shuttle Bus Support; Green Team to keep the grounds clean and handle recycling; Blanket Raffle; and other great jobs!

To volunteer, please send us a message through our contact page on the Institute's website at www.IndigenousCultures.org/contact and include your t-shirt size, as all helpers will receive a special staff shirt.

Cuicani In Xochitl auditions for
America's Got Talent
Last month representatives from the popular TV show America's Got Talent contacted Indigenous Cultures Institute requesting to audition our Cuicani In Xochitl Aztec dance group.  After making contact with Ricardo Arreazola, the group's director, the audition was set.  On January 14th Cuicani In Xochitl auditioned in Austin, Texas for a spot on the America's Got Talent show.

"The audience loved us," says Arreazola. "They went crazy from the moment we first went on stage and kept it up the whole time we were dancing.  Everyone kept yelling, 'see you on TV', 'see you on TV'. And a camera crew followed us off stage all the way to our dressing rooms."

After this round, the next culling auditions will be held around April. We all wish the Cuicani In Xochitl dancers the best of luck and hope that all America will be exposed to their extraordinary dancing!

Don't miss Cuicani In Xochitl at the 2012 Sacred Springs Powwow.

Thank you for your abiding support of Indigenous Cultures Institute.
