Greetings Beeses lovers

Without further ado, it’s straight into this month’s newsletter!

The weather -vs- Beeses Music Club
Firstly we need to tell you that this week’s Beeses Music Club with Gypie Mayo and Chuck McQuillan has been cancelled.  As you may have noticed, we have had a lot of heavy rain recently, and the river is already beginning to rise.  Also, there is a high tide due this week, which normally we could have coped with, but the two together mean that we are unlikely to be able to run the ferry service.  Gypie and Chuck will return with Beeses Music Club to its regular Wednesday night slot on 23 May.  You did know that it’s weekly now, didn’t you...?

We’re currently running a special meal deal on Wednesdays, with Ma’s homemade curry and a bottle of Kingfisher available for just £5.  Gypie and Chuck are already big fans of Ma’s curry, so come on down to enjoy some great music and great food.

We’ve also got two other events happening in the same week that will be firsts in a regular series for each:

Kev’s Quiz Night
On Tuesday 22 May, Professor Kev Beese will be hosting the first Beeses quiz night.  The quiz kicks off at 8:30 p.m., and there will be rounds on music, general knowledge, sport and...well, you’ll have to come and find out, ‘cos the Prof won’t tell us!

Beeses Open Mic Night
It’s all happening this week!  On Thursday 24 May, Beeses has its first open mic night.  It will be hosted for us by the The Willbees, veterans of Bristol’s folk and roots scene, and all are welcome to participate, or else simply listen.  We’re hoping this will be a regular event, probably monthly at first but more often if there is sufficient demand.  If you want to borrow a guitar, we can probably find one for you somewhere...but if Smoke On The Water or Stairway To Heaven are in your repertoire, you may find yourself playing from the middle of the river (and not necessarily in our boat...).

Beeses in Venue
Visitors to Beeses a couple of Sundays ago might have noticed a photographer snapping away at all and sundry.  This was for our forthcoming feature as Bar of the Week in Venue, which is due for publication in the last week of May or first week of June, so look out for that in case you’re in one of the pictures!

We also made it into their Eating Out West supplement a couple of weeks back, so we’re officially great!

Craft Fair
For the last couple of Sundays we’ve had a craft fair in the gardens where you can buy jewellery and other craft items.  We hope to have this on most Sundays, so come on down and check it out.  Ma has her eye on a gorgeous bracelet but Pa hasn’t taken the hint.

Trevor the lockeeper
Finally, an appeal.  A very good friend of ours called Trevor is the lockeeper at Hanham Lock, and he made us feel very welcome as part of the riverside community as soon as we moved in.  He needs the help of everyone who enjoys the river, so please take a look at his MySpace page and see if you can’t spend less than the price of a British Pint of Beer in order to help Trevor and his family keep their home.

Until next time...
