Logging resumes in Mumbulla State Forest - we must act now
Several Aboriginal traditional owners have joined with more than 100 people from local community groups, locals and residents to protest the logging at Mumbulla State Forest in South East NSW.
A Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water survey found a small but healthy population of up to 50 koalas, including females and their young, living in forest earmarked for logging. This is the last remaining koala colony in NSW's South East.
We don't think it’s too late to save the South East’s last koalas from extinction.
If you're in Sydney and can spare a couple of hours over the next week to help get the message out about the South East's koalas, please call the NCC on (02) 9279 2466 or email: jgarcia@nccnsw.org.au
Click here for three more ways you can help save the koalas today.
Please make a donation today to help save the koalas.

Environmental theatre highlights concerns with Tillegra Dam
In a show of solidarity, voters from Dungog, Newcastle and Sydney (as well as two dairy cows) will set up a 'human gallery' in Sydney's Martin Place at 12.45 pm on Friday 23rd April to highlight the environmental impact of the Tillegra Dam and promote more sustainable alternatives for water supply in the region.
Organisers, Save the Williams Coalition, need 50 people, preferably looking a bit rural in Akubra-type hats, each person bearing one corflute sheet with a large photograph from Ken Rubeli’s portfolio of images from the inundation area of the Tillegra Dam.
The dam will be represented by a low wall of hay bales. Supporting this 'tableau' will be other people bearing placards, banners etc. Two prize dairy cows will also be milked.

Pilot project paves way for young people's environment career
A recently launched bush regeneration training program for young people will help keep the local bushland healthy while providing an opportunity for young people to scope out an environmental career.
The Engagement and Retention of Youth in Bush Regeneration Program is the idea of Mosman residents Diana Choquette and Gwen Riggs and has been realised with the backing of the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Harbour North office.
The program is open to all students between the ages of 14 and 18, and will provide
students interested in becoming an environmental professional with skills, knowledge and a better understanding of what working in the bush entails.
For more information and to apply, contact NPWS Harbour North area office on
(02) 9960 6266.
Member Group News: A green view - the Minister chose money, not koala
By John Jeayes
I was devastated to find that Minister Tony Kelly has chosen the money he will get from flogging off 80 housing blocks at Goolawah Estate, rather than save the koala I found there and named after him.
I felt sure when I wrote last time that no matter what cynical people told me to expect from this Government, Mr Kelly, once he knew the real facts about the high conservation value of this very special patch of forest, would reverse his decision to open up the Goolawah Estate Sections 3-5 (Stage 2) for subdivision.
I thought that surely he had just not been properly informed.
Desks, chairs, bookshelves, workstation available for free ... or for a donation
The Nature Conservation Council of NSW is shortly relocating offices to 2/5 Wilson St, Newtown to share office space with the National Parks Assocation.
As a result of our move, we need to find good homes for a lot of our excess furniture. Items going are 3 year old and older workstations, desks, 3-draw under desk filing cabinets in good condition, older style metal filing cabinets (3, 4 and 5 drawer), bookshelves, tables, front reception desk (pictured above), office swivel chairs, board room chairs and one boardroom table. We also have a lot of folders, dividers, plastic document sleeves, etc.
A donation for any items would be most appreciated, however the most important thing for us is to avoid having to send this to landfill.
If you're interested in the furniture please contact Bruce Diekman on (02) 9279 2466 or email: bdiekman@nccnsw.org.au. All items will need to be removed during working hours from Monday, 27 April (this is a public holiday, but someone will be in the office) up to Thursday, 29 April.
