Dear members, supporters and friends,

Last week’s events constitute the biggest threat to British interests at home and abroad in a long time. The Prime Minister’s decision to veto efforts to safeguard the eurozone resulted in marginalising Britain and alienating our EU partners. Eurosceptics and large elements of the tabloid press are calling for him to go further and sever permanently Britain’s links with the European Union.

In this context it is imperative that we stand up and make the case in favour of Britain’s membership of the EU. The European Movement firmly believes that Britain’s future lies within the EU and our national interests can better be served as an active, constructively engaged and influential member of the European Union. We benefit significantly from our membership of the EU in terms of trade, economic growth, jobs, security, peace and global influence. Our position in the world is enhanced from being part of a 500 million strong single market and by standing alongside some of the strongest economies in the world.

This is why the European Movement has been making the case for Britain’s membership of the EU by frequent appearances in the press, lobbying MPs, conducting research and writing articles as well as organising events. We have been taking part in debates up and down the country, campaigning in towns and cities across Britain, and working with schools and universities to inform the conversation around the benefits of EU membership.

In this crucial time for Britain’s future we need all the help we can get. Above all we need all the financial assistance you can give. The European Movement is an independent organisation, supported by its members alone. We receive no funding from corporate interests, political parties or the trade unions. We receive no financial support from the British government or the European Union. We rely exclusively on the contributions of individual supporters who see Britain’s membership of the European Union as the best way to promote the country’s interests and enhance its position in a globalised and competitive world.

For that reason I would like to ask you to join the European Movement or make a donation, no matter how big or small, to help us continue our educational and advocacy work at a time when Britain’s position in the European Union is in grave jeopardy. We need to invest more resources, more time and more effort to counterbalance attempts by eurosceptics to drag this country out of the EU.

We can do more with your help. Join us!
