OPEN SALON 2010
VIEWFINDER OPENS WALLS TO ONE AND ALL
Exhibition dates: 25 February - 14 March 2010
Opening party: 25 February, 7-9pm
All photographers encouraged to exhibit
Curator: Louise Forrester

Viewfinder Photography Gallery's third annual Open Salon builds upon the extraordinary success of two previous Open Salons. The gallery's third Open Salon will see its walls turned over to the public for an exhibition where every submitted image will be shown.
The exhibition will feature hundreds of photographs that span the genres, and that will entirely cover the walls of the Greenwich gallery.
Anyone can bring in a photograph to be displayed, which can be on any subject and in any style. Entries can be made by professional photographers or amateurs, and everyone in between – you can even bring a holiday photograph, if you'd like to see it hung in a gallery!
Curator Louise Forrester said: "The Open Salons 2006 and 2009 were very exciting. This is a great opportunity for local photographers to show their work, and also for the gallery to raise funds to support future exhibitions."
To help support the gallery which is an exempted charity, entries are subject to a £10 handling charge (payable in cash at the gallery, or online).
Those unable to bring a photograph to the gallery in person are invited to email their entry – for an additional £5, the Viewfinder will print it at 5x7" and pin the image as part of the exhibition. Emailed entries can be collected at the end of the exhibition, and are exempt from the storage charge.
All participants are invited to the opening party, on Thursday 25 February, 7-9pm.
Information for participants bringing their photograph in:
- The picture must be A3 or smaller.
- Only one image can be submitted per person.
- Framed photographs:
- If your photograph is framed, please fix a mirror plate to either side of the frame (left and right sides of the frame).
- If you're not sure how to do this, the Viewfinder team can attach them for you.
- If your frame is delicate and you'd prefer not to use mirror plates, please email louise@viewfinder.org.uk before 7 February.
- Mirror plates are available from hardware shops, framers and websites such as www.artestuff.com.
- Drill two small holes into the wood of your frame that align with the holes in the mirror plate, and then screw in a mirror plate onto both the left and right side of your frame. The rounded section extends beyond the frame edge, and will be visible when hung.
- Mounted photographs:
- If your image is mounted on aluminium, velcro will be used or a screw as appropriate.
- Unframed photographs:
- Unframed images will be pinned to the wall.
- Please stick a label to the back of your image with your name, email address and phone number.
- Bring your photograph to the Viewfinder Photography Gallery, Linear House, Peyton Place, SE10 8RS.
- Photographs can be dropped off between Saturday 13 February and Friday 19 February (Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm, and on weekends between 12 noon and 4pm).
- You can either pay in cash when you bring the image in, or pay in advance using the link online (www.viewfinder.org.uk/exhibitions/upcoming.html) – the entry fee is £10, with the option to make additional donations.
- Please note no images will be added to the exhibition after it has opened, apart from those emailed in.
- Work must be collected on Sunday 14 March, between 4 and 6pm.
- Uncollected work will be subject to a £3 packing fee, with an additional storage fee of £3 per week.
Information for participants emailing their photograph in:
- Email entries will be accepted from now until 10 March, and incorporated into the exhibition even after it has opened.
- Save your photograph as a 5 x 7" image, RGB, 300dpi.
- Email your image (filename: YourName_OpenSalon2010) to louise@viewfinder.org.uk
- You can pay the entry fee of £15 (with the option to make additional donations) using the link online (www.viewfinder.org.uk/exhibitions/upcoming.html) – the entry fee is £15, with the option to make additional donations.

Creative Kickstart Workshop: FEB 2010 |
Sunday 28 February, 2-5pm, free
Join us for a fun photography workshop - a great chance to flex your creative muscles, gain some confidence in taking photographs, meet likeminded photography enthusiasts and have your images published online on the Viewfinder website.
We'll meet at the gallery at 2pm, and after discussing which themes and ideas in 'Open Salon' interest you most, set off for an hour taking photographs inspired by these themes. We'll reconvene at the gallery to show each other the photographs taken (a very friendly affair!). Three of each participant's photographs will be published on the Viewfinder website.
To see some of the photographs taken on the last Open Salon workshop, see http://www.viewfinder.org.uk/events/workshops/workshop5.html
Workshop funded by the Capital Community Foundation.
