Commission I’m thrilled to announce that Boston University Tanglewood Institute has commissioned me, a 1990 BUTI alum, to write a new work celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Young Artists Wind Ensemble. Conducted by H. Robert Reynolds, this piece will open their July 30th program at Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood. The Vinyl Six on tour & CD New York-based chamber group Avian Music, under the direction of Artistic Director Peter Flint, is currently on tour in December and January performing my work commissioned by them in 2006, The Vinyl Six. These performances culminate with a show in New York on January 6 at The Cell. And look out for their recording of TV6 on their upcoming CD release, Fantastic Music for a Fabulous Time. Symphony No. 1, My Hands Are a City After its World Premiere last Spring with the Indiana University Symphonic Band conducted Jeffrey Gershman, my three movement 30’ work celebrating mid-century American “Beat” culture is enjoying co-commissioner performances around the world. Recent performers include The Florida State Wind Orchestra conducted by Richard Clary, Japan's Kurashiki Sakuyo Wind Philharmony conducted by James Ripley, Drury University Wind Ensemble conducted by Christopher Koch, Middle Tennessee State University Wind Ensemble conducted by Reed Thomas, University of Evansville Wind Ensemble conducted by Kenneth Steinsultz, and the James Logan Wind Symphony conducted by Ramiro Barrera at the 2009 WASBE Conference. Upcoming performances include Arizona State University Wind Ensemble conducted by Stuart Sims, and the University of Portland Wind Ensemble conducted by Patrick Murphy. And look for the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble’s gorgeous recording of the third movement, My Hands are a City, conducted by John Lynch, on their 2009 CD Millennium Canons: Looking Forward, Looking Back, on the Naxos label. Some upcoming performances Dec 16, 2009 - OK Feel Good for chamber group’s European Premiere with the Lisbon Contemporary Music Group in Coimbra, Portugal.
Jan 9, 2010 - World Premiere of De Profundis, for massed winds, conducted by Jeffrey Gershman, at the Central Oklahoma Directors Association Clinic. Feb. 13, 2010 - As the scent of spring rain... with the Texas All-State 5A Concert Band conducted by Steve Davis at the 2010 TMEA. My best to all, and Happy Holidays! ![]()
