Our book-of-the-month for July is Invisible Acts of Power: Channeling Grace in Your Everyday Life by Caroline Myss. The Sunday lessons will be based on this book. For deeper understanding, we invite you to read along and then join our book club in a meeting on July 25th to discuss the reading. The meeting takes place during fellowship time after service.

During the month of July, we celebrate the independent spirit and the quest for individual freedom that gave birth to the United States of America. As a nation, we honor the vast storehouse of creativity and ingenuity that have been unleashed in a people freed from many of the ties that bind the human spirit. In our culture, we are taught to admire those who are willing to stand alone, ready to face the world. We tend to honor this compelling drive for independence, even to the point of considering it to be a sign of true spiritual power.

As we carefully consider the current state of affairs both nationally and globally, it is clear that the limits of independence and individual freedom are being tested from every angle. In these times, Spirit is inviting us to balance our drive to stand alone as one with an inner command to stand together as one to address the concerns we face both individually and collectively. Here, we come to understand that the highest spiritual power is not unleashed through independence, but through interdependence. By increasing our ability to see ourselves as unique spiritual beings that are connected to others through a unified spiritual experience, we open ourselves to becoming channels of divine grace through which God can heal our world.
It is this very idea of transforming ourselves into channels of grace that will form the basis of our Sunday lessons this month. Each of our dynamic speakers will encourage us to accept the call to become channels or conduits of divine favor (grace) in our families, our workplace and in our communities. Our book of the month, Invisible Acts of Power: Channeling Grace in Your Everyday Life by Caroline Myss, offers a myriad of examples of how God is ready to use us to answer the prayers of His people. This cannot happen until we move from a sense of spiritual independence into an awareness of spiritual interdependence. Please join us this month as we learn the importance our re-establishing our deep connections to family and community in ways that allow us transform our lives, and our world, with grace.
