Hi all
With the recent fine weather,
January’s rain seems a distant memory. However, for those
relaxing 800 miles away when the Environment Agency’s flood alert
came through via mobile phone, the nerves are still a little fragile.
After a year of Blood, Sweat, Tears, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Gifted and Black,
Ma and Pa hotfooted it to the south of France for a month of
really-not-very-much-at-all. It would be mean to tell you about our
visiting and fine dining, so you’ll have to make do with a picture of
Ma brightening up a grey day in Marseille.
After a few weeks the weather decided that we had probably had enough, and
summoned forth enough rain to bring us back to, well, stand around and look
at it. But Mother Nature is no match for Ma’s cunning plans; we
told you about our flood precautions in the last newsletter, and these paid
off, as some water did make it into the bar. Pa himself was heard to
say that it only took him an hour to clear up...
You can see more pictures of the Avon flowing through the garden in our Construction and Inundation
Gallery, along with
some pictures of the work we’re doing on the bar.
Oh yes, we’ve been busy since the waters receded. Ma flagged
down some passing builders with that peculiar glint in her eye, and they
soon set about demolishing the old bar and building a new larger, whizzier,
shinier one. They also arranged for ten tons of cement to be laid for
the new floor by someone who had done the same thing on Channel 4’s
Grand Designs. And the man doing the tiles in the ladies loos was
also on that show! It’s only the best for Ma’s powder
rooms...
You can come and check out all the changes yourself very soon.
History demands that we open on Easter weekend, but Ma and Pa would like to
invite you to a ‘preview’ day a week earlier on Sunday 16
March. We’ll be open from 12:00 - 6:00. The kitchen will
be open, the ferry will be running and you’ll see some familiar faces
from last year.
And we haven’t even had time to tell you about this year’s
beer festival, Sunday morning breakfasts, the return of Professor
Beese’s quiz, twice monthly open mic nights and more live music!
You’ll have to stay tuned for the next newsletter...alternatively
you can see what’s coming by going to the new calendar on
the web site.
Scroll through each month to see exactly what’s happening.
The web site has had a bit of a brush up as well, with some great pictures
on each page taken during the ten minutes that the sun shone last year.
So come and see us on the 16th and beat the crowds!
[PS: The images above looked blurred when this was put together, so you
can click on them if it doesn’t sort itself out and you want a better
look.
Also, some people have said they can’t see the pictures in the
newsletters.
There might be a message at the top of the e-mail saying that images have
been blocked, with a button to load them, so you could try that.
I dunno, good beer, quality food, a friendly welcome and PC support.
You don’t get that from Wetherspoons!]
