Our Journey...
Upon my arrival to the La
Paz airport, at 13,000 ft high in altitude, with two suitcases and my loving and patient dog Nicolas in hand, I realized I had no idea what products I was going to make and had what seemed to be limited resources and time.
However, the usual tug at my heart reminded me not to worry, because I was merely a tool, being guided to do so much more than a few cute Alpaca sweaters and gloves.
During the 1st week I felt complete stillness in a city that is anything but still. I tried not to plan, and focused my awareness on flowing with whatever came forward.
I visited the jail shortly upon my arrival; and was received by warm eyes and hearts. The women who remained imprisoned from my previous trip were full of gratitude, hope and trust. A trust I had not perceived in them before, trust and solidarity that we were in this together. I sensed in them an opening of their hearts, and in the weeks that followed that opening grew and was reflected in their work, in the same fashion a painter uses paint to express his/her art, these women used yarn to express the opening of their hearts.
Sonia and Eulogia
Eulogia is my coordinator and right hand. She is my main inspiration for this work.
As the enthusiasm and joy for our work grew, I grew and as I grew they gifted me with more joy and enthusiasm. The knitters became more than a team, a sisterhood and recognition of each others divine essence emerged and we became one. Giving and receiving joy, sharing our loving, expressing our power was the work at hand, knitting became merely our tool.
On my last day I wanted to share a little bit of the U.S. with my team, and took an Apple Pie and Cheesecake to share. To my admiration and surprise they had prepared an abundant and delicious meal for all of us to enjoy as part of our closing ceremony.
Now it’s important that you understand that these amazing women survive on cents a day, therefore for them to express this level of generosity means the world to them.
We feasted, toasted, laughed, and set intentions of abundance and growth for our Knitting Peace venture, in hopes for continuing our connection and deepening our bond for many years to come.
Once again I am grateful for the opportunity to say yes to this work, which brings forward so many opportunities for these amazing women to more fully connect with themselves, each other and the Universal abundance available to us all.
This collection came forward gracefully and reflects the vibrant joy experienced in the creation of it.
