Central Bag Relocates Business to Leavenworth
Leavenworth County Development Corporation (LCDC) is pleased to announce the location of a new business to Leavenworth. Central Bag Company moved its business from Kansas City, Missouri to the former Hallmark Select Products building. Central Bag is renovating the building and bringing its 17 existing employees to Leavenworth.  When new equipment is installed employment will increase to at least 75 at the facility.

“We are excited about the move to Leavenworth and the growth opportunity it will provide our company,” said Chris Klimek, President of Central Bag. “We currently operate out of a 6 story building, and the move into a 250,000 sq. ft. building on one level will allow us to operate more efficiently and expand our products and services.”

Central Bag Company was established in 1929, and in 1989 became 100% employee owned. The company manufactures textile bags, as well as imports and distributes paper, burlap, cotton, polyethylene and woven polypropylene bags and other packaging products. Central Bag will manufacture bags locally as the company plans to increase its business.

LCDC teamed with the Kansas Department of Commerce and the City of Leavenworth to assist in the company’s relocation. In order to encourage the initial group of employees to relocate to Leavenworth, LCDC worked with the City and the Leavenworth County Port Authority to offer moving expenses to those existing employees.
ED/ Chamber Alliance to Host Housing Summit
On April 22nd, the ED/ Chamber Alliance will be hosting a Housing Summit in Leavenworth County to address housing opportunities. With several new jobs coming to the area in Leavenworth County and Wyandotte County over the next couple years, our communities need to position themselves to be able to provide available housing. Between 2000 and 2009 Leavenworth County has had a 9.1% increase in population and is continuing to grow.

The Housing Summit will be April 22nd at Falcon Lakes in Basehor and will feature growth updates from communities and regional groups. Come learn about what is available in Leavenworth County and then spend the afternoon with us discussing how we can use these opportunities to grow.
