Cashing in your precious metal/Other jewelry services
If you have some gold, silver or platinum jewelry and you would like to turn it into cash, it is better to do it sooner rather than later...well, when you do it is a gamble!  Gold has increased over $200 since I wrote the newsletter last month!  It closed at about $1784 per oz. (depending where you get your info...) at the time of writing!! Silver is hovering around $39 which is up $4 since last I wrote;  platinum has gone up to $1811 after falling below the value of gold briefly.    I recall reading in the Wall Street Journal sometime ago that a particular economist expected gold to hit $2000 before it leveled out. Here is a recent article you  may find interesting.  It is a crazy situation and no one has a crystal ball. However, I am willing and able to help you deal with your excess, unworn, out of style jewelry that you just don't have anything better to do with!

How it works: I use a reputable refining service and  charge 10% of your cash return or $25, which ever is greater. I am only offering this to readers of this newsletter and their referrals (there is a thank you gift for the person who refers you!).  Call me if you would like more information. Here is a link to the refiners for your information here. Please be aware that you will get 80% and usually much less of the value of your gold metal with OTHER vendors - less with silver and platinum - (unless you can access the refiners directly yourself); with me, you will get 88% for gold.  An example of this is: a client brought in a few low karat gold rings for which she had been offered about $140 by another establishment.  Working with me, she ended up with a check for over $300 and that is AFTER I took my commission. I welcome your phone calls if you still aren't sure how this works and can offer referrals .  So, clean out your jewelry boxes and turn it in for some fun cash!

Don't do it!  Call Kim before considering the local pawn shop or some other establishment.  I will explain everything to you and give you a refining statement.  You will get 98% on your gold and 90% on platinum and silver.  Less my modest 10% commission, my rate of return is hard to beat.  You may have to wait a bit but its worth it!

Other jewelry services
If your precious metal jewelry is in need of a clean up, please bring it by. If its just a ring or two, there is no charge but if there is serious tarnish and you have several pieces, I will charge a minimum of $25.  For serious cleaning, ie, deep scratches, I will have to give you an estimate. I repair and clean jewelry made by me for free! (but not replacement parts).

And yes, I will repair sterling silver jewelry; restringing pearls or other beads is $2 per inch; repair jobs start at $25 and all estimates are free!

The corporate commission that I have been working on is just about ready to go into boxes for delivery on Friday! Everything was going smoothly, until I found out that stainless steel was not magnetic...duh (as my 13 year-old would say!). However, the chaps I worked with rallied and produced what I needed in a different steel that can accept a magnet. Phew! I will post pictures of the completed commission if I can get permission from the client.  However, if you need corporate gifts, it is a little known fact that it is something I do very well and have plenty experience doing.  I have done work for HSBC, Bacardi/Westbay and Chivas Regal to name a few.
The Denver Art Museum in the Hamilton Building shop still has some newish work and some old favorites including the porcelain work that I do with Lynda Ladwig.  Our joint work is perfect for the current exhibition, Marvelous Mud.  You are also welcome to visit me in the studio to see what is 'hot off the bench' as I like to say!  I adore doing commissions and am working on two at them moment.  I encourage you to explore this if you have never commissioned a piece before.  I can work to most budgets even with the cost of metals as they are these days (see above).  It forces me to be creative.  It is also one of the reasons for my interest in alternative materials such as hemp, rubber, steel and buttons!
Finally, I am working on a new website that will more accurately reflect what I do. I welcome any comments from you, dear reader, as to what you would like to see on it.  Do you want to shop?  Would you like to see a weekly journal? Tips on care for your jewelry...anything!

The summer is winding down and the kids are back at school so I will be extra productive getting ready for THE HOLIDAYS (yes, its not far now..)!

I thank you for reading and hope to see you soon!
with love
