Casper & the Cookies release animated video for "Little King"
I know. I can't believe it, either.
It's five months after the release of Modern Silence, but dammit, we have a video, and it's really good. Fredrick R. Arnold III (nationaldinonaut.com), an old friend of the band living in New Paltz, NY, hand-drew just about every frame of the new video for "Little King." The love and sweat practically drip off your laptop screen.
The plot: the members of Casper & the Cookies are involved in some Scooby Doo-esque mischief with a healthy dollop of technicolor glam style. An underage kid with a fake ID is turned away at the club where Casper & the Cookies are playing that night. Meanwhile, Jason, Kay, & Jim are on their way to the gig. Suddenly, the van is are run off the road by an evil robot and driven off a cliff onto some elevated train tracks, whereupon they are chased by a haunted train. I won't tell you the rest, but there is a frog prince and another chase scene. And the Cookies' super-powers come from their fake eyelashes.
The background is stocked with characters familiar to anyone who has attended an Athens Popfest-- thrown every summer by HHBTM records. In fact, it appears Fredrick has cast HHBTM label head Mike Turner as the villain. Also, there's a guy running around the video who looks like Frank Zappa.

It's like someone asked me what my all-time favorite video would look like, yanked it straight out of my
imagination, and slapped it on a hard drive. But better.
AND TO CELEBRATE (or is it just coincidence?)...
CATC's website, CasperFandango.com, has lowered the price of the double vinyl release of Modern Silence. You can now own this future classic pressed on 180gm vinyl with artwork by Matt Blanks printed on heavy stock for$15 plus shipping. This price-- and lower prices on other selected items in the store-- is good from now through November 2009.
P.S. If you're making your year-end best-of list, make sure there's a space for Modern Silence. Haven't heard our new album yet? Email us for a download. casperandthecookies@charter.net

Reviews for Modern Silence...
"Athens, Georgia resident Jason NeSmith has been using variations of the Casper moniker for nearly 15 years, and the Cookies have been in existence since 1999. NeSmith was also a touring member of Of Montreal around the time of Satanic Panic in the Attic, and the Cookies share with that band a love of glittery makeup and off-kilter pop. Casper and the Cookies, however, look more to the power pop of Big Star and Cheap Trick for their inspiration. I thought they were great at this year's NYC Popfest." - Brooklyn Vegan
"Many bands produce decent pop hooks, but few do it with the same level of theatricality and gusto as Casper & The Cookies. Modern Silence is in a whole league of its own. This album certainly has the stones to cement C&TC as bona fide pop experts." - Indieville
“Miles and miles of conceptual pop soundscape. An eternity of possibilities...Skin bracing.” -Aiding & Abetting
“[Modern Silence] recalls NeSmith’s former band, Of Montreal, minus the constant sex imagery.” -Magnet
“Casper & The Cookies are everything you like best about The Monkees, Nick Lowe, the dB’s, XTC, Sparks, the B-52’s, and earlier Bowie all wrapped up in one colorful musical ribbon.” -WXPN Blog
“This is a band that embraces making challenging music. Their glossy surface is what
makes them attractive. The last band to master this technique was the Beatles.” -URB
“After their stellar breakthrough The Optimist’s Club, anticipation is high for the third Casper & the Cookies record; no one wants to be taken off guard again.” -Optical Atlas
“Casper & the Cookies have an album of the year contender.” - Funeral Pudding
“It’s not just an early contender for that coveted “album of the year” title, but it’s a late entry into the “album of the decade” contest. Seriously.” -RetroLowFi
"I've always thought it reductive when people refer to Casper and the Cookies as an indie-pop band. What do you call a mix of prog and twee, anyway? Interesting may be the best word for it." - Flagpole
