Mike's Barn News
May 21, 2011

Hi folks, I wanted to drop a note in response to the many emails I've been getting inquiring about the Barn this summer. Briefly; I can say that the endless rains this spring have hampered the barn preparations considerably this season among other issues and I'm also just not in a hurry.  I suspect we will be having at least one event in mid-June if not more and start rolling with some weekend events from there out. I will be updating you all more frequently in the weeks ahead.

A Local Legend Passes

Yesterday was perhaps one of the saddest days I can remember when I learned of the unexpected passing of my good friend Andy Fleck. Andy has been part of Mike's Barn and my life since some of the earliest shows here. Andy was a great friend through thick and thin and a truley passionate artist. Andy contributed to many aspects of he Barn shows here and selflessly mentored many a young player over the years. Andy was a musicians musician and I feel blessed to have called him a friend. At this time I have no information on any services or memorials but I hope to host a fitting tribute, memorial and fundraiser this July that I and many of his friends are already planning. Andy leaves behing his young son Sam, his mother and I believe two brothers. Fing, as we liked to call Andy will always be remembered here. Rest in Peace Andy, how dare you leave us so soon.

Oberlin comes to Elyria

I wanted to give a shout out for my friend Brad Thompson for once again hosting a jazz showcase tonight at Moss's Restaurant in Elyria. The event features many of the young and talented Oberlin Jazz students that often play here at Mike's Barn during the summer months. Tonight's headliners will be our own beloved Organ Yank crew with special guest my buddy Conrad Reeves on guitar, Chase Jackson on Vibes, Josh Rubenstien on Tuba with Reggie The "Jazzman" Mitchell as the MC. Other guest include Barbara Barret sitting in on vocals. Other artist to perform also.

The event gets underway at 7:30 and I believe admission is $12.

If you already have tickets please contact Moss' to reserve seats. Tickets are available at Moss' (440) 322-8611 or contact Brad at 440-653-0417.
