The “e-blokart kit”
The engineers at blokart have been working with an electric motor manufacturer to develop a hub motor for the blokart so they can be used promotionally in parades, events and  demonstrations.
When invited by the Rugby World Cup to feature in the opening ceremony, blokart’s engineers were confident that they could supply a reliable system.
The blokart front wheel was exchanged for an aluminium mag wheel of the same size fitted with a 500 watt electric hub motor.
Pivots for a Vee Brake system were fitted to the purpose built forks. The left hand brake lever is fitted with a sensor which cuts the power to the front wheel to ensure the throttle is off under braking.
A nice thumb throttle with a kill button and an LED battery power indicator is mounted on the right handlebar.
The 36 volt battery is in a strong alloy case with an ignition key and is positioned in a p urpose built bag behind the blokart seat with the systems controller in a small bag fitted to the side strut of the kart.
The system is pleasantly powerful and instantly puts a smile on the driver face. It has so much torque that the front wheel easily spins at full throttle on the grass. Small inclines are not a problem.
With only a small amount of friction in the front wheel when the throttle is off the electric system can certainly be used in combination with sailing.
The e-blokart kit is excellent for ‘getting out of the hole’ on very light days. When coming to a stop, a short 5 second burst of power can excelerate the kart to a speed that can be maintained with the sail using the apparent wind. The small amount of friction from the front wheel is a small sacrifice for this huge benefit.
Karts fitted with an e-blokart kit are a whole lot of fun on a tight course even without a sail!
The long term view is to have them availa ble for blokart rental operators so they can still operate in just a breath of wind. Further testing is required to ensure the system is reliable for commercial use.

The blokart Foot Plate
The blokart Foot Plate provides a comfortable platform for your feet and takes the pressure off your legs.
Designed to be used with or without a Pod, the long-set Foot Plate (for taller pilots) is shaped to fit inside the nose of the Pod.
The short-set Foot Plate (for small to average    pilots) offers a wider surface area for your feet and easily fits inside your Pod.

Two options are available:
1. Long-set Foot Plate suits pilots over 5’10” (1.77m)
2. Short-set Foot Plate suits pilots 5’ (1.55m) to 5’10” (1.77m)

Both Foot Plates offer a wide range of adjustment to suit most body sizes.
The Foot Plate can be used in blokart events from January 2012. B.3 of the IRBA One Design blokart Equipment Rules state: “Only items that are available on the open market at least three (3) months prior to the event may be used.”

Multi Straps

The Multi Straps are two 2.5m (98") blokart branded straps with tough webbing and strong ladder-lock buckles.
Using the straps from your Pod nose frame to the mast base retains a nice shape to the Pod lifting the windscreen and flattening out the side walls, reduces any flapping and vibration from the Pod skin and keeps the nose of the Pod well away from the front tire (esp when using the Big Foot).
blokart will soon be modifying the Pod wind screen to allow a little more clearance between the mast base and the wind screen.
Why?...If the Pod skin is tensioned back too much the windscreen can hit the mast base and develop a small bend which sometimes results in a crack after continual vibration when sailing.

The Multi straps are legal within the IBRA one design rules and are also excellent for your condensing your sail quiver bag and blokart bag for storage and travel.

Pod aligning

We occasionally get people contacting us with a fitting issue at the front of their Pod. Typically it looks as though the curve at the front of the screen sits to one side (see the arrow) and in the worst instance the front dome on one side will not do up.

Normally people expect it is misaligned domes which has surprised us as the components are computer cut and should be completely consistent.

We have discovered the issue comes down to alignment during assembly and is quickly and simply fixed. Loosen the keel tube quick release clamp and the POD foot bar clamp a little and you should be able to correct the alignment by lifting the front of the assembled POD and giving it a quick tweak in the appropriate direction before retightening the clamps.

New Axle in old kart ‘Tip’

If you own an older Sport model blokart (chassis number prior to 3444) and develop a problem with your axle, you can easily fit a new model axle by turning it around and putting the spring button on in the other end. It’ll look a little different to the other axle but it’ll get you sailing...and it’s only cosmetic.

PS: Axles on Pro (stainless) model karts have never changed so above only relates to the Sport model.
