Global Conference on Aquaculture 2010: Update
9-12 June, Bangkok, Thailand
 
We are pleased to announce that a keynote address Aquaculture and Sustainable Nutrition Security in a Warming Planet, will be given by Professor Monkombu Sambasivan Swaminathan, winner of the first World Food Prize in 1987 and one of TIME Magazine's "20 most influential Asian people of the 20th century".
 
The programme will feature regional and global reviews on aquaculture, followed by thematic  sessions and expert panel presentations on key issues facing the industry. For a speakers list and more information about the programme please visit:

Regional projects
 
The majority of reservoir fisheries in Asia are artisanal and provide livelihoods and nutrition for the rural poor. The project will identify national and regional R&D needs for effective utilisation of reservoirs and lakes for food fish production and develop capacity in management of reservoir fisheries.
 
Smallholder farmer capacity building in ASEAN
 
The project aims to raise awareness and capacity among small-scale farmers and assist them to become or remain competitive in markets, in line with the ASEAN vision. It will assist farmers to improve their organisation, livelihoods and implement better management practices to improve farm efficiency.

Strengthening Adaptive Capacities to the Impacts of Climate Change in Small-scale Aquaculture
 
This project aims to strengthen the adaptive capacities of rural farming communities to the impacts of climate change. The project focuses on small-scale aquaculture and related sectors that depend on aquatic resources for their livelihoods. The project is working in Indonesia, India, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Nepal.
