Earl Robinson's Lonesome Train honors the story of the final train journey made by fallen president Lincoln, wending its way through the byways of America, allowing a people’s chorus led by a balladeer; a narrator and a gospel preacher and his choir; and a barn dance caller and fiddler to honor Lincoln’s message of “a new nation conceived in liberty” is front and center. |

BACK IN NYC!
We're back at Ashford & Simpson's SugarBar this Friday, featuring a who's who of NYC cats: Frank Gravis, Glenn Alexander, and Adam Holzman - goin' b' fun!!!
CALIFORNIA:
I got to work with Alphonso Johnson - one of my hero's - a couple of weeks back...(I first saw him, playing with Billy Cobham, Tom Scott, Steve Khan, and Mark Soskin, when I was 17 years old at Carnegie Hall. That was before I had even gotten my first drum set! I've gone on to play with 3 of the 5 since then...) Joining me at Spaghettini's Jazz Club, with Alphonso, was my good friend Pat Kelley, and also a great new music connection, Bill Cantos, who played and sang his @$$ off!!! Definitely check out some of Pat and Bill's solo CD's if you haven't yet:
PAT KELLEY ... BILL CANTOS
I also hung at NAMM with some great friends, and got to salivate over some new gear that's just hit the market. Spent time with Stanley Clark, Verdine White, Herbie Hancock, Pat Kelley, Jeff Millar-Sax, Dean Parks, Kevin Walt...
CD:
I'm still in the midst of recording
the new CD. I'm tracking drums in my NYC studio, and I'll be adding some tracks out west as well. Glenn Alexander, Tom Kennedy, Gerald Veasley, Tommy McDonnell, a full horn section, and other very special guests shall be featured. All the tunes are originals. :)
PHOTOS:
I've decided to feature photos of great bass players in this newsletter, starting with Alphonso Johnson from our gig last month...
Hope to see and hear from you soon...

“A Master Drummer and a Must See Artist”
---LOS ANGELES TIMES ©2005
"The Paul Peress Group - in my taste - is the best
band that's ever played in the 14 years of the Kaslo Jazz Festival.
These guys were stellar!
The interaction between them, the connection with the audience, was all
just amazing."
---KASLO JAZZ ETC FESTIVAL, British Columbia - Gusti
Callis, Director
"Kenny Rogers brought the curtain down on the St.
Kitts Music Festival, along with some great performances by Lonnie Liston
Smith and Paul Peress."
---SUN ST. KITTS & NEVIS ©2005
"The first time Paul Peress and I played together,
we had an incredible musical connection - something magical was happening!
It felt like we had been playing together for years. There aren't many
drummers who care about the music at the level that Paul does. I will
remember that night for the rest of my life."
---Abe Laboriel ©2005
“Paul Peress brought the curtain down with his
diverse group of musicians from South America and the US and his funky,
jazzy, multi-cultural sounds.
Peress' expert drumming skills did not go unnoticed and received
resounding applause from the crowd.”
